Connect via Bluetooth

Bluetooth dongle

The Votol Bluetooth adapter can be readily found online. It connects the CAN bus of the Metacycle to Bluetooth, which then be used for programming the controller.

This documents how the Bluetooth adapter could be wired in order to allow communication on the CAN bus.

This Bluetooth programmer will talk to the controller to program it. There are posts describing how to connect to the Votol EM200-2SP directly to the Bluetooth adapter, but that requires support from the wiring harness and I have not seen any posts where Metacycle owners have used this approach.

The CAN bus protocol is also exposed through the charging port. The issue with this method is that a special connector is required and people don't find this as convenient.

Luckily, there's a third option that is readily available and doesn't require any uncommon connectors. The Bluetooth adapter can be wired to the USB port within the phone charging compartment.

The pinout diagram is for the wiring harness, where the Bluetooth adapter plugs in. Similarly, the colors listed are for the harness side. On the Bluetooth adapter, colors can vary a bit; orange appears yellow and +5 V is red.

The images presented here are with a USB cable soldered directly to the board within the Bluetooth adapter. The original cable is shown with the correct orientation as a reference to show original wire colors. To attach this directly to your USB port, connect the following wires.
